It's a great movie from 1974 . Done by Stanley Kubrick It is a very interesting and visually stunning movie, and reminded me a little of Tom Jones, the movie based on Fielding's novel. But Lyndon is a lot sadder. Thackeray was a great satirist, but had some real hell in his life, including a mentally ill wife. He was a lot sadder than Fielding. If you are looking for a good read, take a chance on Thackeray's Vanity Fair. There's a character in that book, Rawdon Crawley, who reminds me of Herring and "Reggie." |

There are several posters here who exhibit some of the worst attributes of Dickens' villains. As an example, "Reggie" reminds me most of Dickens' Uriah Heep from David Copperfield. A brief descriptor from Wiki: "The character is notable for his cloying humility, obsequiousness, and general insincerity." Reggie. |

New Illinois State Motto
"Illinois, where our governors make our license plates" BLAGO HUMOR -- To the tune of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" Get packin¹, Rod Blagojevich The state¹s in disarray The Tribune wants you unemployed At least by Christmas Day. The TV pundits want your head Could there be pay to play? Oh, tidings of comfort and joy Save Illinois! Oh, tidings of comfort and joy. Good riddance Rod Blagojevich Your Elvis look¹s inane, The Senate¹s mad, so¹s Lisa¹s dad. You drive us all insane. Our transit¹s broke, the state¹s a joke, The Tollway¹s one big pain. Oh, tidings of comfort and joy Save Illinois! Oh, tidings of comfort and joy. Good luck old Rod Blagojevich The feds have quite a place. Fitzgerald¹s poked his nose around And if he has a case, George Ryan¹s moving stuff around Creating extra space. Oh, tidings of comfort and joy Save Illinois! Oh, tidings of comfort and joy. ?;^ Q |

MANAGER'S MEMO 12/16/08 Blagogate enters its second week with plenty to ponder. Like last week…let me hit some key points to consider as this stain widens. -The silence of former Illinois Congressman and the proposed chief of staff to the president-elect, Rahm Emanuel, certainly is deafening. Emanuel once bragged that he and Obama had masterminded Rob Blagojevich's 2002 gubernatorial campaign. Now he is dodging reporters and offering zero comment. It is logical that Emanuel had conversations with Hot Rod…..nothing wrong there. The silence is probably because Emanuel is all over the wire taps. Anything he says now --can't dispute what appears on the tapes….which are sure to be released eventually. -On another front I continue to see the national media go completely into the tank for the incoming president. Remember when the GOP named Sarah Palin as VP? Remember the dozens of reporters and investigators that rushed to tiny Wasilla, Alaska to find dirt? Good grief, they were relentless. But look where Obama cut his teeth? Chicago, Illinois--- Where graft is a birthright. And yet, there was woefully little reporting on Obama's rise through the southside of the windy city. -Who is the sitting Governor meeting these days? One day he is meeting with a group of ministers and the next he is meeting with rapper R. Kelly's attorney. What an interesting lesson in diversity….One day breaking bread with the monsignor and asking for forgiveness…and the next asking a criminal lawyer how to cut the best deal to save his own skin…..What an interesting life. And finally, I received an e-mail from an Illinois native last week….and this is what it said on the bottom of the message-----“quote” ----- “Being a native Illinoisan means being a “can-do” person. Heck, even our Governors roll up their sleeves and make license plates.” |

IANAL, but, yes, I think. ;-) The first count against Blagojevich is written, in part, "in a scheme to defraud the State of Illinois and the people of the State of Illinois of the honest services of Rod R. Blagojevich". So, I'm guessing selling a Senate seat constitutes fraud. It becomes Federal because they used mails and interstate wire communications. |

If it's an appointment it's an appointment. Look what's going on with Hillary's seat. Deals are being cut. Blago's mistake was getting taped cussing. Made Honest Abe roll over in his grave, according to Fitz. He had no business saying that, so he weakened his case. A fed prosecutor or AG can, as they say, "indict a ham sandwich." They'll get Blago on something. Maybe running on somebody's restricted grass while jogging. But unless he got personal cash or property he's just another politician. Anybody see that Fox news bit on Hastert's land jumping in value because of that pork highway project he pushed through? Talk about a crook. If you ever have to get a scam redressed, go to your state AG. My ma got taken by a chimney shaker some years ago, and me and my BIL and a couple buddies were almost on the way to the guy's offices with baseball bats, when my sis got on the phone with the AG. My ma had her money back that week, and our bats never got scratched. Rule of law, man, rule of law. These AG's and Fed prosecutors are often the biggest goody 2-shoes on earth. Like bulldogs with the law. Good for them. Then you got your Spitzers. --Vic |
