Blago is a *bit* over the edge, but I agree there is nothing unusual for Illinois or anywhere else in the gubernatorial appointment of federal officeholds to fill seats. There is always a quid pro quo, monetary or otherwise. Right. He's just a normal, regular guy. Probably pretty normal as far as pols go. Fitzgerald is after him, and this might be a replay of when Jim Thompson, a fed prosecutor, went after Gov Otto Kerner and nailed him for some typical pol influence trading. Then *he* became the gov. Most of these guys in office are dirty. Put a tap on Dodd, and you might be surprised his public persona is a load of crap. Or maybe not. Where I draw the line is personal profit and endangering/screwing the public. There was Sec of State in Illinois who died - maybe 30 years ago. A guy cleaning the dead pol's hotel room found a suitcase stuffed with almost a million in cash. It became a big joke around here. --Vic Was it frozen cash? -- John |
