Default Garmin 4000 & 5000 series chartplotters

I just heard today that the about to be released new 4000/5000 series
will only display g2 charts. If you have old mapsource or bluecharts
they will have to be upgraded. Very annoying that Garmin didi not
make the units backward compatible.

Hmm...I'll have to start looking for another cheap Garmin "throw away".
I paid $12 for my Garmin 185 GPS/Sonar/Chartplotter some one threw away
to a thrift shop because damned Garmin won't let anyone produce the chart
plugs for them, trying to force boaters to buy a new $900 plotter every
few years.

Same old proprietary NMEA bull**** boaters have suffered since NMEA was
organized. As long as boaters will buy it, they'll all keep producing
incompatible electronics with forcible obsolescense.

Especially as the g2 charts are only marginal better than the classic
bluecharts ....

What is going on here???

Raymarine discontinues the support of C-Map charts in their newer
charplotters and Garmin seems to be doing the same with other brands ...

Is it some kind of power play (call it marketing?), where we - the
users/customers - are the victims ...

Or, any other - more positive or constructive - explanation?

And the new Garmin 420 series only accepts the BlueChart G2 VISION SD
card, about 2 times the price of a regular BC, and for us here in
South America, it it almost unusable since do not have navigation
details of the majority of the coast besides it do have ANY tide
information as well.. By the way, the Navionics Gold Plus used on the
Raymarine Plotters is 10 times better for the same price ..

After having owned 12 Garmin's Gps since 1992, now I still have 3
Garmin Gps Plotters (G130, G76, G276C) all 3 now completely obsoletes
since do not have AIS support, and I pretend to change my Gps
provider for another brand ASAP.

Probably ...

I've always been a happy garmin customer, but it seems like my gpsmap292 is
going to be my last garmin. The war forces us to to change attitude. In the
future I will carefully select a map system and then pick any hardware that
will display it.
