There are no "ropes" on vessels. Boats use LINE. The Navy has lots of rope on their ships. Rope is stranded wire "cable" (for lack of a better word). This is the big serious stuff for towing and lifting and the like. Line is non-metallic and generally made from synthetic or organic fibers.
