I have done this too and nobody has complained about this. Many newgroup charters specifically allow short infrequent commercial postings. And I think that Accesswave will hardly consider one or two newgroup posting as spam. In my opinion, spam is mass-mailing to thousands or millions of e-mail recepients. Besides, the post was very clearly marked as 'commercial post', so anyone on expensive bandwidth had the opportunity not to spend his expensive bandwidth on this message. Meindert |

Maybe innovative solutions could be considered worthy news to some of the

Actually, I was responding to what I took to be a discussion about product announcements, since I hadn't seen the original post. I just googled the original post, and while it is on-topic, it seems to be just an add for a website with some cool stuff, not an announcement. A fine distinction, perhaps, but that's the charter. I think Meindert is correct about the spam issue, though. "Spam" is a nasty word for a nasty practice and shouldn't be casually thrown about. Also, since spam is now defined as a crime by several current and coming statutes, calling someone a spammer without proof is not just namecalling anymore. It's publicly accusing someone of a crime. I'm no lawyer and I don't play one on the inernet, but that's not something I'd care to do. The message is apparently a breach of the charter and the rules of netiquette explicitly included in the charter, though. Not as big a breach as publishing someone's contact info on Usenet, perhaps, but a breach. Now, we've spent 20 times the bandwidth used by the original post discussing it, as is alwways the case.
