Default Wireless LAN on a Sailboat

Regarding WiFi, I tried it in a half dozen anchorages this summer.. There
were some 'mega-buck' homes on shore but I was never able to hook up with
any open systems. I use a directional antenna with modest gain. I think it
could be done with one of the more expensive ($3xx) high gain antenna but
then it would be super directional and might not work on a boat at anchor.

My son had use the same antenna and software in his neighborhood and it
worked for over a city block.

Don't get the idea that I was trying to hack into someones system, just
access his WiFi connection for hi spd internet connection.

Unethical, maybe, but..... Flame if you want.

Guys are doing it all over the Bay Area, etc.
