You're pretty much "home free" (nevermind that you live on your home).
I am assured that you won't fall prey to parochial forecasts, will
venture out only when the forecast benefits outweigh the forecast
possible drawbacks.

I doubt Skippy will ever be "home free" unless and until he changes his
mental frame of mind from sailing on a schedule dictated by meeting lubbers
ashore to sailing strictly according to the optimal weather conditions.

As for weather forecasts, that's another very weak area in Skippy's grab bag
of lubberly tricks. I have read where he employs a professional weather
router. Sad! Weather prognostication is something any intelligent sailor can
do with ease since the advent of all the weather information pages on the
Internet. To rely upon some lubber ashore for your weather forecasts is to
shirk a captain's personal responsibility to vessel and crew.

This continued dependence upon land while claiming to be a sailor is not
very smart. Skippy has come a long way but he has an even longer way to go
before I consider him one of my peers.

and Everglades where it is easy to get in trouble.

I was thinking of getting a SPOT too but I decided not to. I don't want to
put people like Skippy or the rest of you to shame should you look in on my
progress and note I regularly do 200 mile days in a vessel with a much
shorter LWL. Skippy only manages about half that with a 45-footer.

I think the difference is I know how to work the wind and currents and
Skippy tends to work against them to meet lubberly schedules.

So, you have one of the smaller Winnebagos?

That's the only way Wilbur could guarantee 8+ knots with a LWL below
68' outside of the roaring 40s.

Real world, days of hull-speed or greater are rare and not necessarily
the best memories for cruisers. They're more likely to be something to
recall, then avoid.
