Land your dinghy near or in Mt Misery cove and climb the hill. At high tide, take a dinghy ride up into the head of Conscience Bay. Go ashore on the sand spits either side of the inlet. Go beach combing, build a campfire, have a picnic. This is one of the few places on Long Island where you can do all of that without a permit. This sounds like a good overall plan. They charge $7 an hour to tie a dinghy to the dock if you want to see the town. Other than that, looking is free. There are steep hills immediately surrounding the shorefront village. There are some really beautiful neighborhoods hidden up in those hills. Lots of fancy old houses with lush gardens, waterfalls, etc. We walk around up there occasionally. The village itself is two different places depending on whether you are there during the week or on a weekend. |
