Default What's happening in Ft Myers FL ?

My son has invited me to accompany him to Ft Myers next week for about four
days. All expenses paid. Some kind of award/bonus thinging.

He has kinda left it up to me to select the activities. Neither of us play
golf and I'm not diving certified (he is). We both sail, however I we don't
have any certificate that would allow us to charter a boat for a day.

Another possibility, would be that we both go on a dive trip but I would
just go as a passenger.

Anyone have any recommendations? (or anyone need a crew??)

I should think with your experience (as seen on the newsgroup at least) and
a credit card, these people would likely charter you a boat for the day.
Nice people and nice boats in my experience.

Steve,

I live in Cape Coral, directly across the river from Ft Myers.

There is a LOT to do in this area, both on and off the water depending
on your interests.

My next door neighbor runs a boat rental (20+ Center Consoles) he

Tarpon Point Marina

Cape Coral, FL 33914
Local Phone: 239-549-4900
Fax: 239-549-4901

I believe Mid-Island Marina also has rentals:

House boat rentals he

More boat rental/charter info:

From Ft Myers Beach there are excursion boats to Key West and a couple
of different gambling boats.

Great sunsets and nightly entertainment at the roof top bar of the
Lani Kai hotel in Ft Myers Beach:

Sanibel and Captiva Islands, go by car, drive through the Ding Darling
Wildlife Preserve on Sanibel. Have lunch at the Green Flash or Tween
Waters Inn on Captiva. Both have great water view, food and views
best at the Green Flash but is more expensive.

There are also the Henry Ford and Thomas Edsion museums and estates in
Ft Myers. They are next to each other and managed as a single
operation.

A quick drive south and you are on the edge of the Everglades:

You can also drop me a note at my Hotmail posting address. We might
be able to go out for a spin on my 24 ft I/O, time and weather
permitting.

What is this "weather permitting" ?? Didn't expect to hear that.

Thanks for the offer Wayne. I'm pretty much on my son's itinerary, since his
company is picking up the tab. Most of his associates are going there for
the golf.. That's not for me.. My son knows I would like to go sailing so I
suspect we might get at least a day of sailing in.. (he's the only son of 3
that sails.)

==================================

The 24 is a good solid boat but it has its limits. We had some
ferrocious squalls here earlier in the week as a cold front came in
off the Gulf. Weather was not fit for man nor beast until yesterday.

If I had the Bertram here we could go out in any weather you could
stand up in, but it is still in Connecticut and about to be sold with
any luck.

Steve,

We were just down there in February. Went on a really great
airboat ride at a place about 30 mi east of Ft. Meyers. Northern
most part of the Everglades. It's on a lake that has the highest
concentration on gators in FL.
