Goofball provided a link to those pictures a long time ago to try and appease Roger, who was insisting that all participants in the newsgroup needed to prove their legitimacy to him, or they were to be considered trolls and non-sailors. If Goffball had wanted those pictures posted on Roger's listing, I think there would have been a bit more information with them. I always assumed he had simply "appropriated" them without permission. I didn't see much harm in that, since Goofball had already posted them elsewhere on the internet. Still, Goofball's wishes that they be removed should take precedence. I maintain several alumni websites that contain class directories. Sometimes people contact me with their information, and sometimes, someone else sends it in. If I don't get it from the person themselves, I simply do a few online searches to see if the information is already public elsewhere. If it is, then I use it - with the caveat that if the person in question asks me to remove it, I do so immediately, even though the same information may be widely available elsewhere. |

Roger downloaded the pictures I indicated were of myself and my boat, placed them on his website and retained them after I told him I had not consented to this. Why you should think that I do not own a 22ft. boat is beyond me. I previously posted "proof" concerning the rubber boat. I note that Roger makes much of the sheltered waters of Main but thinks where I operate is a "bathtub".. He should try it in an ILB. |

Gawd it's pathetic to look back in here and see this.
For the record: I received either an email or a post here, I've forgotten which, from the oh so well named Goofball saying, "You could use these pictures." and providing links. Maybe it was someone pretending to be him but I took it at face value. I replied asking which person in one of the pictures was him and he replied, "It's not the little girl." I didn't include any information other than his posting handle because that's all he wanted included on the page and, as I saw it, that was perfectly acceptable. I never received any other communication from him, specifically a request for his entry to be removed. This whole thread just confirms the validity of my decision to move on to where people actually talk about boats, cruising, and the systems on their boats without having to wade through piles of crap like this. -- Roger Long |
