: I only had trouble with the 2-stroke oil mixture. At idle it was fine, even high idle, but at freeway speeds it was not getting enough. Not sure if that's what you mean. Damn thing seized up on me on the freeway. Scary. All of a sudden the throttle stopped working and the cars were whizzing by. *Then* I realized the rear wheel had pretty much locked. Then, I pulled in the clutch just as it started to get out of control. I had to rebuild it, then I took it to a "mechanic" who made the same mistake. Hmm....just like Jetskis! A 2-stroke engine runs best JUST BEFORE IT SEIZES!....(C; Most of the time it's caused by clogged jets making it run leaner than it should...lean gas-OK....lean oil-OOPS!!! When they're running, the simplicity of it all is just great. But, alas, with so little lubrication and needle bearings, they don't run very long. Honda was pretty much the DOOM of the 2-stroke bikes....along with all the British bikes you couldn't start, most of the time. (Had BSA, Triumphs, too! Larry KNOWS crank-crank-crank- curse) I was young and VERY STUPID when I made the gross error of trading in my perfect Honda 305 Dream for the 750-4. Hormonal imbalance with money saved....never a good thing. You can't BUY a used 305 Dream unless it's in pieces. So, I got the nearest bike Honda's made to it in years, the Reflex 250. The Reflex drives and rides just about like the Dream...without the shifting, which is perfect for the city. Twist the throttle and the V- belt drive pretty much takes care of itself. Drive it like you stole it, 72 mpg. Drive it like your car, 80 mpg. It's too much fun to worry about saving gas...(c; The belt shift bogs at about 40, but the hackers have a modified weight roller kit to raise the first "shift point" up to get rid of it, if it bothers you. I'm to old to bother. I bought it for $3000 from a custom bike shop that also sells Vespas, a wierd combo there. The original owner was 70 and swapped it for a Vespa 125 I think he'll regret. It had only 1900 miles on it from 2004 to 2007. It sat on the sales floor for 8 hours before I just had to open my big mouth and say to the owner, "I need a bike about half way between that one (pointing to the 1800cc fire breathing but very beautiful custom choppers) and that one (pointing to the little Vespa)." "I got just what you need.", he smiled, as we walked back to the used Reflex. "Drive it around the block and see how you like it.", he said after I showed him the 2nd Motorcycle Endorsement in Charleston, SC. I headed home for the truck or a free ride back to the shop. I think that: Everyone driving an SUV or pickup truck pays an extra $5000 penalty tax each year. Everyone driving something over 60 mpg, anything, gets $5000 check from the SUV owner's taxes. The surplus MUST be used to FIX THE ROADS! No passenger vehicles are allowed to have over 4 cylinders, including pickup trucks, which are just SUVs with outside storage. The oil companies would have a heart attack. PRICES FOR OIL would plummet, allowing the poor farmers feeding us all to make a small profit for a change instead of handing it all over to the tractor diesel barons. Power boat owners are treated like SUV owners.... Sailboat owners get over 60 mpg, easy, so are treated accordingly.... If we're interested in NOT running out of oil, we must act accordingly....or else. I'm doing my part....with my used veggie oil diesels. I get $5000 per vehicle as they all get over 60 mpg...easy....and use NO sulfur fuel, not low sulfur fuel....(c; The government must stop colluding with the oil barons to prevent Americans from owning fuel efficient tiny cars under the guise of "safety". How stupid. I can buy a scooter with no protection, but I'm NOT allowed to own a Fiat that gets 65mpg because it's "not safe". More lies.... |

@corp.supernews.com: You're wanting more big govmint telling you what you can and can't do??????? G You already GOT it! I'm simply trying to point out their ire is misdirected, if we are to stretch what oil there is left beyond our lifetimes.... Let's do away with it all and you can stand on your poopdeck and repel borders after your wealth. Is anarchy the answer? |
