Gordon wrote in news:13ub7cpg8rflcd2 @corp.supernews.com: http://www.snopes.com/photos/accident/tulsacrash.asp I'm a motorcyclist, and have been since I was 15. My current bike is a Honda Reflex 250cc scooter, the perfect vehicle for city driving at 80 mpg. Notice how the call for "increased motorcycle safety awareness" and "helmets", which is what hung this guy from the truck until he was dead, and more penalties, always more jail time, which never does anything is always called for. So if he hadn't been wearing the helmet, the force that was enough to put at helmet *through* the truck wouldn't have meant the driver having to hose the bikers brains off the back of his trailer? If the helmet hung him, then he was unfortunate, without it he would have been dead sooner. On the other hand, if he'd been 6 inches to his left, he may have just "banged his head". WHAT WOULD BE WRONG WITH LIMITING THE SIZE OF MOTORCYCLE ENGINES TO SOMETHING LESS THAN THE 500HP SUZUKI HAYABUSA OR THE 1,800CC HONDA MONSTERS OR THE 1,500CC HARLEY BEASTS?! The 1500 Harleys aren't the problem, though, they're generally cruising bikes, as are the big Hondas. Most of those guys aren't interested in those kind of speeds. WRT 250cc limit, have you ever seen MotoGP? There is a 250cc class that is easily faster than the claimed 124mph of the deceased rider. You'll never see that called for because that would hurt the DEALERS THAT SOLD IT TO HIM. It's just peachy ok to build and sell motorcycles whos speedometer tops out at 450 mph.....to the dumbest recipients of the Darwin Awards. You'll never see it because it's not the dealers fault. Guns don't kill people, people do. WRT the Darwin Awards, I'm pro-natural selection, bring it on - it's got to be better than what we have in the civilised world today. My 250 will cruise just as fast as the traffic on the interstate....Isn't that fast enough? No, we need a production motorcycle...sports car...hot Japanese drifter...that will do 0 to 120 in 4.8 seconds. There we have it in plain black and white: it's enough for me, no body should have more. Will your next target be how much alcohol I drink? How much tobacco I smoke? How many rounds I squeeze off over the weekend? Or how about the fat content of my diet? Or the caffeine content of my coffee? Where will those "who know best" finish restricting people's choices?
