Has anyone gone to the Sail US Boat Show in Atlantic City? We had
planned to go but wether confines us to home. If we are typical, the
show must really be hurting.

Im going tomorow, come hell freezing over or high water, besides its
tooooo cold to go skiing (snow is tooooo slow at these temperatures).

If I cant work on boat projects then I might as well go to the show.

Except that there was a large crowd on Sat., the show seemed
comparatively smaller and also less well attended than in recent past
years (there were even some empty booths that appear to have been set
up for exhibitors who/which didn't show), and some of the exhibitors
so indicated.

The show was smaller. It was well attended on Saturday, but the weather hurt on
other days. For the sellers it was a "one Day" show.

Absent were many of the national marine equipment manufacturers such as
Harken, Sailrite, Forespar, Edson, PYI, etc. The show is about 1/4
the size of what was there 10 years ago. The ony reason I went was to
take a good look/comparison of windlasses, radar, windvanes, spinnaker
poles, etc. ..... none to be found at all; but, plenty of overpriced
foul weather gear, topsiders and sunglasses. The engine dealers had no
idea of their current products and definitely would offer NO
information on maintenance or rebuilding of older equipment - "Wanna
make a deal for a new engine, "No i dont know where the horspower curve
peaks vs. rpm".
The only forum that had real merit was the Lin & Larry Pardy Show:
Heavy weather tactics otherwise the depth and expertise offered in
other forums was quite elemental or evolved into infomercials on
captive products. I did learn that for over $180 per night I can keep
my boat at the Farley State Marina in AC -- fat friggin chance.

The AC show was an intense disappointment for me and I dont think that
I will be going back again in the near future as I can find out more
information on products from a West Marine Catalogue!!!!!
.....arrrrrrgh.

Last I heard they were charging $4 a foot.

Harrah's on the other side of the bridge had a very nice and reasonably
priced marina adjacent to the casino but they closed it. AC is no
longer a decent stop, just too costly.

You haven't been keeping up. New York is the safest large city in the
nation, probably a lot safer than Atlantic City. Of course, the Trump
Marina is pretty much a severe mugging in itself.

I've never been to Atlantic City, aside from the cost, is it worth visiting
(by boat)? Is it a nice place?

Nantucket Boat Basin if I remember is $5.00 per foot. So expensive, but is
an awesome place to visit.

Interesting place for a copule of days. It was a good place to stop between
Cape May and New York, You can take the intracoastal to Manesquam Inlet from
AC but yu can't go south to Cape May because of a fixed bridge. Lots of
casions with headliner shows.

It is indeed. Buit you don't have to take a slip. You can anchor out or take
a mooring and use the launches to get around. That option does not really
exist at Atlantic City. The hell of it is that the marina at the Trump
casino is state-owned and should be inexpensive. Trump just operates it.

I got a Gill Key west jacket for under 200 bucks. Most places have them for
20-30 bucks more and no selection!
I got a Nightstar flashlight for 29 bucks, 10 less than online. There were a
few deals, and a few more if you chatted up the salespeople.

There's a great place to anchor right next to AC. As you're going down
the inlet, before you get to the bridge, the main harbor will be to your
left. But look to your right for a marked cut in the beach. Take that
cut and follow the channel along the left side of the little bay you're
in, past all the houses that'll be on your left, and go back to a second
area opening up to a nice basin for anchoring. You'll be in Brigantine
only a short cab or bike ride from AC. There's a landing area for a
dink right across the street from a shopping center.

The big marinas in Atlantic City, yes. But there are quite a few

Last time I went in there I never had less than 7 feet. You just have
to make sure you stay in the channel going back to the basin because out
of it, it's very shallow and areas are dry at low tide. There are quite
a few big boats at the houses around the basin so they keep it dredged.
Also, it's off a very well protected inlet.
