Here's today's project "boat" that belongs to my friend Dan who used to own the Hatteras 56 project boat. It's a beautiful new, expensive 5th Wheel coach, a rolling home-on-wheels....right down to the faux grandfather's clock submerged in the bulkhead just inside the main door on the starboard side. To bad the idiots that designed it DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE on how to wire it. What a PoS! Both the + and - battery terminals are piled up with stranded house wiring crimped into ring terminals with NO FUSE OF ANY KIND! There's about 8 #14 wires and 2 #10 wires piled up on both posts! The plus wires are all white, with NO MARKERS WHATSOEVER. The minus wires are all black and aren't marked, either. It hasn't caught fire......yet, however. I think the two #10 wires go to the two #10 wires that screw onto the 55A battery charger which trips its own breaker....or it used to when the coach was new, but doesn't run any more. The dealer, 100 miles away, reset the tripped AC breaker and never bothered to TROUBLESHOOT why! Whatever it was finally ate the no-name switching battery charger hidden away inside a little cabinet in the side of the under-the-front-bedroom storage locker...with no vent to let the HEAT OUT from several items like this big charger, a ferroresonant voltage booster, 4 slideout motor controllers, 1 electric "porch" that runs out under the door with 4 electric steps for ingress/egress. All these heat sources and NO VENT! iDIOTS! At least 2 of the #14 wires goes to the main 12V breaker panel upstairs in a closet. AS you can still run the sliding rooms in and out with this panel OFF, I think all these motor controllers must be the other damned wires. How stupid. I finally got both big LCD TV's to work, but some more idiots bypass the antenna preamp because it was shot. Another warranty replacement soon. Larry -- Well, what can you expect for only $150,000? You think you get electrical engineering?! Ha! All RVs are CRAP! Tow vehicle is Ford F-800 5th wheel with Caterpillar 7.2L diesel and Allison 6-speed automatic custom crew cab. HUGE! Jerk your cabin cruiser right off the trailer! I think it could haul Dan's old Hat 56 right up the boatramp!....()c ![]() |
