My neighbor, the fuel polisher, raised and home taught 5 kids on a
39' custom sailboat in Mexico. They moved ashore when the kids were high
school age. The last one entered college this year with $19,000 in
scholarships. The others are in or graduated from college.

BTW, the fuel polisher also does deliveries and is delivering a new
112' Westport yacht to San Diego! What a boat! No shoes allowed on
board! Completely computerized. Cruises between 18 and 22 with a top of
almost 30. $9 million and you to can have one.

I've read it many times over the years, and to me it still sounds like
a little love song to how great it is to be on a sailboat. These are
the things we will just laugh off in order to be on the boat. They're
also the things that make others think we're crazy.

Ya, but the thing is that the "liveaboard simulator" has all of the
drawbacks with none of the benefits.

Welcome. "New Member" isn't quite the concept though. Think of this place

BTW the link to your web site doesn't go anywhere.

I checked the link and it works now...
I miss my old waterfront bar, so maybe I can hang here for a while
till I get to go again!

I just joined the group and thought I'd say hi. My name's Regina. I'm
a stay-at-home mom of two girls, (6 and 8). My family and I live
aboard our 66' Bruce Roberts HM 56 full time.

We bought he boat on ebay as a liveaboard project boat. We're going to
put a schooner rig on her and re-do the interior of the boat along
with the systems. As we're planning to make all the systems simple, it
won't cost as much.

Our goal with Boudicca is to live on and circumnavigate in a large
boat on a small budget.

I started a blog to follow our progress, (http://
schoonerboudicca.blogspot.com), though within the next week or two,
I'll be building a whole website, including blog, at
http://www.SchoonerBoudicca.com.

I look forward to being part of the list...

Regina

Welcome... watchout for trolls... :-) Sounds like an interesting plan. I
didn't look at the site, but just wondering why you guys decided to do
this... do you have previous boating experience? What was your motivation? I
think you might be wrong about "won't cost much," because it depends on how
you define "simple."

We do have previous experience. We have lived aboard for over 5 years
and my husband is a professional sailor. Our children have been raised
aboard as well.

Our motivation? To see the world, to explore, to experience what is
"out there".
And "won't cost much" is subjective. But we will have a very basic
electrical system, gravity fed and foot pumped water, we will make our
own sails, do our own repairs. No refrigeration, no air conditioning,
a heating stove for warmth, we will rarely use our engines and move by
sail except in necessary harbors and to maintain it.

It will be much more "rustic" then most people are used to or
comfortable with... but it's the way we like it.

Maybe just maybe because if little XXX goes to school and tells Miss

they live on a big old piece of **** that barely floats ..

The department of social services might come a calling.

This woman sounds like a nutcase.

I feel bad for the kids.

Her blog is pretty eccentric, to put it mildly.

Oh yes. It says that she is "polyamorous", i.e., she and her husband are
in a committed relationship with two other men.

(Down, boys, down!)

That's going to be one busy schooner.

No, I'm in committed relationships with more then one, (only two now).
And I chose to school my children at home. The are free to tell anyone
they like about our lifestyle and do. They know it is not the "normal"
way of living. I don't lie to my children, family or friends. I am
honest about who I am and the choices I make in my life.

Thank you for your opinion, even if it is about a person you don't
know.

Greetings Regina;

Nice looking boat, except the ports in the hull, weld them over then
you will have a proper world crusier. Do you have the rigging?

I have a steel hull too, have been on steel boats most my life so if
you need any tips just ask. Also have lived aboard 20+ yrs.

You can get better info on alt.sailing.asa then you can here.

Good luck on your planned voyage. What a keen education your kids
could get sailing around the globe, what better school house than the
real world eh?

Thank you. She's a fiberglass boat. We have to fix the windows in the
hull as well as several other things. Her rig is long since gone and
we'll be re-rigging her. I will check out alt.sailing.asa as well...
Thanks again!
