My neighbor, the fuel polisher, raised and home taught 5 kids on a
39' custom sailboat in Mexico. They moved ashore when the kids were high school age. The last one entered college this year with $19,000 in scholarships. The others are in or graduated from college. BTW, the fuel polisher also does deliveries and is delivering a new 112' Westport yacht to San Diego! What a boat! No shoes allowed on board! Completely computerized. Cruises between 18 and 22 with a top of almost 30. $9 million and you to can have one. Gordon |

These are the things we will just laugh off in order to be on the boat. They're also the things that make others think we're crazy. Ryk, just wishing he was cold, wet and sleep deprived |

Welcome. "New Member" isn't quite the concept though. Think of this place as like a waterfront bar. Anyone can walk in and, sometimes, we wish they couldn't. Unlike a bar, unfortunately, there is no one to throw the wacko's and drunks out. That's what your killfile is for. BTW the link to your web site doesn't go anywhere. -- Roger Long I checked the link and it works now... I miss my old waterfront bar, so maybe I can hang here for a while till I get to go again! |

We're going to put a schooner rig on her and re-do the interior of the boat along with the systems. As we're planning to make all the systems simple, it won't cost as much. Our goal with Boudicca is to live on and circumnavigate in a large boat on a small budget. I started a blog to follow our progress, (http:// schoonerboudicca.blogspot.com), though within the next week or two, I'll be building a whole website, including blog, at http://www.SchoonerBoudicca.com. I look forward to being part of the list... Regina Welcome... watchout for trolls... :-) Sounds like an interesting plan. I didn't look at the site, but just wondering why you guys decided to do this... do you have previous boating experience? What was your motivation? I think you might be wrong about "won't cost much," because it depends on how you define "simple." -- "j" ganz We do have previous experience. We have lived aboard for over 5 years and my husband is a professional sailor. Our children have been raised aboard as well. Our motivation? To see the world, to explore, to experience what is "out there". And "won't cost much" is subjective. But we will have a very basic electrical system, gravity fed and foot pumped water, we will make our own sails, do our own repairs. No refrigeration, no air conditioning, a heating stove for warmth, we will rarely use our engines and move by sail except in necessary harbors and to maintain it. It will be much more "rustic" then most people are used to or comfortable with... but it's the way we like it. |

The are free to tell anyone they like about our lifestyle and do. They know it is not the "normal" way of living. I don't lie to my children, family or friends. Do you have the rigging? I have a steel hull too, have been on steel boats most my life so if you need any tips just ask. Also have lived aboard 20+ yrs. You can get better info on alt.sailing.asa then you can here. Good luck on your planned voyage. What a keen education your kids could get sailing around the globe, what better school house than the real world eh? Joe RedCloudhttp://sports.webshots.com/photo/1242722704063212926VskyTX Thank you. She's a fiberglass boat. We have to fix the windows in the hull as well as several other things. Her rig is long since gone and we'll be re-rigging her. I will check out alt.sailing.asa as well... Thanks again! |
