Default Evinrude jr motor water pump

used 1986, how can I tell water pump is working, before damage, should
water exit the engine, while running? Does adjustments high or low
effect motor cooling?
appreciate your help

Yes there should be a teltail somewhere squirting water when the
engine is running. Second, if the water pump isn't working the engine
will get hot as hell very quickly.

As long as the lower end is in the water at least as deep as the
cavitation plate you should be getting water. If you tilt the motor
all the way up you probably won't be getting any water.
