Queen For A Day - or, Free Wheels in St. Pete FL
Believe it or not, this really is (tangentially) related to
sailing/cruising, etc... Most of you know that we've been the beneficiaries of many good outcomes as a result of our wreck. We like to think that it's not only the "what goes around" and "paying it forward" which we practice, but the immense good will of fellow cruisers, live-aboards, wannabees, friends and family which generated those good things.. With that long winded introduction out of the way, we're nearly finished in our rehab and trialling of all that's needed for us to leave. When we leave, we'll no longer need the '93 4WD GMC Suburban given to us by a fellow cruiser who no longer needed it. It won't win any prizes, but it's stout and starts and runs reliably. We'd like to pass it along to someone in similar circumstance - finding themselves in short-term need of a vehicle suited to hauling stuff, and willing to pass it along to another needy and/or deserving sudden pedestrian, preferably a cruiser finding themselves in a strange/unaccustomed location, when they're finished with it. We expect to have left sometime shortly after July 4th, or even, perhaps, earlier, if my first ever (dammit!) set of spectacles arrive before then. We'll be in Salt Creek Marina, in St. Petersburg FL until our departure, and if it should happen that we can't directly get together with our beneficiary, we could leave the signed title and keys in the office for later pickup. At the risk of looking like the title of this post (where very old people will recall they gave away a washing machine on the show), we're looking for a deserving recipient. If none surface from this and other cruising related exposure I'm doing simultaneously, we have a local charity which will direct it effectively - just not to a cruiser :{)) So, if you happen to be that person, or can recommend someone, please write me directly at . You could also call 770-887-0397 if you'd rather. Skip Morgan 461 #2 SV Flying Pig KI4MPC See our galleries at www.justpickone.org/skip/gallery ! Well, folks, we have a winner. Between boats on an around the world trip, he's sold one in Ft. Lauderdale and bought one in Nashville. What goes around comes around, and he's already got a charity selected for its next destination after it delivers the trailer (the Suburban is a 10,000 pound tow rated setup) carrying all their stuff to their new home. As to us, we're within days of departure. New charts ordering, waiting for a water pump rebuild to finish, getting our outboards back from servicing, last minute tweaks on our electronics and a few other odds and ends are all that are keeping us here. We'll try to get our log list postings out before we actually untie the dock lines... Current thinking includes the possibility for getting on the Gulf Stream wherever it's convenient and just riding it all the way, but we may well do 36-hour jumps up the coast, too... Take it slow Skip. Riding the Gulf Stream is like riding the tiger: it's fun until it's not, and then you have to get off. That's when you realize the nearest port is 50 to 70 miles away and you've got another day's sail to get there. |
