Missing yacht on US East Coast
I heard a snippet on the radio about an extensive search for a yacht and
four people in the Carolina area but nothing further. Anyone know anything? -- Roger Long |

: I heard a snippet on the radio about an extensive search for a yacht and four people in the Carolina area but nothing further. Anyone know anything? -- Roger Long From a long list of news about it on Google News: Coast Guard Searches For Boat Missing Off South Carolina Coast Web Editor: Rhonda Erskine, Online Content Producer Created: 3/2/2007 1:43:31 PM Updated: 3/2/2007 3:32:21 PM Email This Story Printer Friendly Version Send Us A News Tip Make WCSH6.com Your Homepage WCSH6.com/mobile The Coast Guard is saying distress calls about six boaters in a small craft that was taking on water might have been a hoax. Investigators say their helicopter searches off the South Carolina coast have turned up nothing. The calls came in late Thursday night, as a fierce storm was sweeping across the state. The 23-foot vessel, carrying six people, was taking on water about 600 feet from land. Then the communication was lost. At the time of the distress call, a violent storm blamed for 20 deaths across the Midwest and Southeast was moving into the Carolinas, packing wind gusts over 50 miles-an-hour. Petty officer Donnie Brzuska says Coast Guard crews "risked their lives to go out." He says if it's indeed a hoax, "it's a very serious crime." A Coast Guard commander says officials suspect it's a false alarm because nothing has turned up. He says considering the weather conditions, a disabled boat in the reported location should have washed ashore. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Is that it? Larry -- If the damned government isn't going to enforce immigration laws, can they at LEAST park an ICE paddy wagon in front of WalMart so I can find a parking place and make the checkout line SHORTER?! |
