Default Cuba in January?

Better check, last week, U.S. administration cancelled most special condition
permits. I'm not sure of the cut-off dates but call State Dept. for details.

I think you are right. The Dubya cut back on most cultural and research
permits, especially for teachers, artist and researchers who tend to be
Democrats, at the same time that he freed up travel rules for Cuban
Americans.

Yeah, isn't that squirrelly. It's a way to funnel financing to those
who would be favorable to the agenda of the current
administration...get 'em funded, and up and ready when Tio Fidel carcs
it.

I'm not too sure about this. The prohibitions apply to just about all
groups who might earlier have obtained a travel license, not just art or
knowledge workers.

My wife traveled to Cuba last December with group of legal professionals
who, as far as I could see, pretty much spanned the political spectrum as we
know it. The only thing they really had in common was a desire to enjoy
mohitos.

This won't exactly help. The so-called "policy" on Cuba is administered by
the Treasury Department through its Office of Foreign Assets Control.

FWIW, here is a guy, Bush, who has no problem currying favor with known
felons in the business and financial worlds, while at the same time turning
the big guns on an essentially harmless control freak on a small nearby
island. Is his brother up for re-election soon?
