Default Imigrante Voyage

For those of you who would like to really do a trip even if vicariously here
is Joe on the Vessel Imigrante. Imigrante has been sailing for what seems
like forever...Came from the US down through the southern seas...returned
from Tasmania non stop to the Panama Canal through the Southern
Ocean...transitted the canal and is now on his way to the Azores.

Joe is a tuna fisherman, originally from the Azores but now out of San
Diego. He has done most of this trip single-handed. He is now reporting
into the Pacific Seafarers Net via Winlink as copying him directly has
become difficult.

The most interesting thing about Joe is that he remains charming and warm
even when he gets tired to the edge of losing it. He seems to have some
infinite resource he sucks up when we all believe he can go on no more.

Anyway here are a couple of his recent reports as he nears the end of his
voyage.

All is well in this 7'th day of sailing, i had been way to lucky with the
weather, but now the winds have changed to the N,N,E, and i am running
straight North, i can only go these 2 ways, North, or East, so i decided to
run further North before i should go East, but its so aggravating, going the
wrong way, the way things looked, i thought i had plenty of time to get to
the Azores, by the 25'th of October, but now i just hope the weather
cooperates with me some, i am rushing across the Atlantic, in the Hurricane
Season, and now i find Imigrante going straight North, by putting me West,to
far, and if a Hurricane should get between me and the Azores, and now i have
burned more then half of my fuel, hopefully i can turn East North East,
Soon. Well i ran all night doing about 350 Degrees, and now in mid day, the
winds seem to be turning a little to the South, because the Auto Pilot is
turning with the wind, and i been running more at 15 Degrees, and now i am
at Latitude,26,14 North, Bert the weather Man told me to run North, that
close to Latitude, 30 North the winds would curve in from the South East, so
i hope that it's wat is starting to Happen, by the time i get to 30 North i
should be running straight to the Azores.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

All is well in this 8'th Day of Sailing between, Barbados Island and Calheta
Sao Jorge, in the Azores, all is well, yesterday i tried to catch a fish,
but during the day i did not catch any thing, so at Night i was going to
bring it in, and it felt like there was some thing big there, so i started
to pull it in, but by now it was petty dark, and as it came up to the side,
it was all black, so i thought it's maybe a snake mackerel, hooked by the
middle, and as i pulled on it harder i realized that it was a Large, Black,
peace of molded plastic, wow, wat is this, i had a good laugh, the Jig was
all broken, and so i went and took a picture of myself, with my days catch,
he he. i am almost at the Half way point, its about 75 more miles and then
it will be counting down the miles,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

All is well in Imigrante, on this 9'th day of Sailing, from Barbados on to
Calheta Sao Jorge, in the Azores, well today or just about one hour ago, i
passed the Half Way mark, on this passage, for a few minutes the G,P,S,
would tell me that i was 1,160,5 Miles, from Barbados and 1,160,5 from
Calheta Sao Jorge, in the Azores, it was a great felling realizing that i am
crossing the Half way point. I have been dragging the Jig, for a couple of
Days and nothing, but i keep on hooking trash, it really bothers me just how
full of pollution, the Oceans of the world are. There is a Depression at
22,30 North, and 72 West, sounds like it has a Name but i didn't copy, it,
its about 1,150 Miles to the South West, so i am fine
here.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,
