If it needs more encouragement, spray a little wd40 in _before_
cranking. Cover the intake (after removing the spark arrestor or filter) completely with your palm and crank it up to speed (about 2-3 secs), pull you hand of while still cranking and shoot some more wd40 in. If that doesn't do it, somethings wrong with the valves. You shouldn't need the optional intake heater unless it's close to freezing. Covering the intake prevents the cylinders from getting much air at all and makes it much easier for the starter to crank it fast so the fly wheel can then help get it started. It will run on WD40 as long as you keep spraying it - don't even need fuel. Starters can be handled by you local auto starter/alternator shop - leastwise I got mine rebuilt there. Parts come from the "local" farm machinery or road equipment shop. The heat exchangers commonly installed seem to be a tad on the small side, so it might overheat unless exchanger is in like-new condition. Very nice engines. Good luck. Hope you get the old trooper back on the line. g Rufus |
