Default Algae-X experience?

R.W. Behan wrote:
For those who don't know, Algae-X is a magnetic device you insert
into your diesel fuel line, between the fuel tank and the primary
filter. The diesel then flows through a strong magnetic field on the
way to the primary (in my case, an everyday Racor). The magnetic
field is claimed to "treat" the fuel in such a way that fuel
contamination in the tank cannot take place, so the resulting problem
of sludge--called, generically, "algae"--is eliminated. (The return
line recirculates diesel back to the tank, so the longer you run your
engine the better the quality of the fuel becomes, until you reach
some equilibrium of perfection.)

Yes, it does sound too good to be true, but I've found on line wildly
contradicting stories to the contrary: that it really does work. I
also know as well that things too good to be true usually aren't.

Anyone try one of these gadgets? I have one claim that says they're
standard equipment on Coast Guard boats. I also have a Coast Guard
memo that says they don't work. Etc. etc. etc. Does Cummins ship
new engines with Algae-X units installed as factory equipment? Read
on the web they do. Can't find anything to verify that on the Cummins
website. Etc. etc.

I'd LOVE to

Magnetic bangles are supposed to treat osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, but I
have 2 daughters who will tell you this is bull****. Doesn't stop the shops
from selling them though!
