Within a few years, I want to get a captains liscense to captain a sailboat
that is USCG approved for 49 passengers for daycharters. What is involved in getting this liscense. All I can find by searching the web are courses for large commercial USCG liscenses. Any info appreciated. -- Steve G 281-376-2682 Houston, Texas Remove the 'NS' from my email address to reply. |

In as few words as possible, a lot of useless memorization. Go to sea school.

Well,
In my case of 20 plus years with a license, I have had very few occasions to use or even see red over red, much less all the other "required" information. |

BG In my case of close to 40 years with a license, I've had a number of occasions to use and see red over red and been amazed at the number of times that I have had to make use of, in one way or another, of all the other "required" and unrequired information. From: Capt. Bill, Spoken like a true Smart ass. Thanks. If you have a captain license, I do. and if you in fact are a boater of any sort, I am, of some sort. you would know many many times you do not see day shapes, proper lighting, etc. Yes, I do know that. Don't see how that translates into not needed to learn/know them. In fact, if you don't learn them, how would you know if the shape is missing or if the lighting your seeing/showing is improper? But beyound that, there is a mountain of information that you must know to pass the captains test, that truly has no relevence to the reality of most boating. I'd say there's a small amount of info that has no relevence to reality. But then your boating reality and mine may differ. back at ya! Your serve. Lighten up Sterling! It's only the internet. :-) Capt. Bill |
