Default USCG Captains liscense....whats involved

Within a few years, I want to get a captains liscense to captain a sailboat
that is USCG approved for 49 passengers for daycharters.

What is involved in getting this liscense. All I can find by searching the
web are courses for large commercial USCG liscenses.

Any info appreciated.

In as few words as possible, a lot of useless memorization. Go to sea school.

Well,

In my case of 20 plus years with a license, I have had very few occasions to
use or even see red over red, much less all the other "required" information.

BG In my case of close to 40 years with a license, I've had a number of
occasions to use and see red over red and been amazed at the number of times
that I have had to make use of, in one way or another, of all the other
"required" and unrequired information.

Maybe. But to me it just sounds like Shen spends more time on the water than on
his computer.
