![]() Hello all, I am looking at buying an early Privilege 39 catamaran. The vessel has two cracks in the cockpit deck, just where the "T" shaped cockpit extends out from bridgework to the hulls. The cracks are about 8" or 9" long and they are fairly deep, probably through the skin of the foam core sandwich. Same spot on each side. I will of course have a surveyor inspect it and moisture meter the surrounding deck. I am trying determine whether these are from loads on the cockpit deck or from flexing of the hull deck structure. I would have expected to see some other signs if it were flex, like some spider cracks in the transom or something, but so far I don't see anything. I am wondering if anyone has seen this on other cats. Any general observations on where the older Privileges show their age is also most welcome. Thanks. Russ |

Make sure that you have a real good survey. I had a cat for 10 years
about year 8 the bridge deck showed signs delaminated. The entire outer skin of the under side of the bridge deck and the foam core had to be replaced. This was about a $10,000 job. The good thing is the company stood by there boat and paid for the repairs. Another Cat I know of had a bridge deck failure while sailing 40-50 miles off shore in the Gulf of Mexico they had to be rescued by the Coast Guard and lost the boat. I spoke to the owner afterward he said that he had some of the same symptoms that I had had. |

Thanks for the info.
Can I ask what company stands behind their work 8 years down the road? Russ On 4 Oct 2006 05:11:34 -0700, " wrote: Make sure that you have a real good survey.
