Default Hiring a Crew (Inspired by Boat Transport Across the U.S.)

Peter Hendra recently posted a question about having his boat
transported across the U.S., as opposed to single-handing it from where
it is in the Caribbean through the Panama Canal to the U.S. Pacific
coast. Which led me to the thought, why not hire a crew-member. This
would of course assume that one would have the time to spend on such a
trip ( and no, Mr. Hendra - I am not trying to spend your free time or
money for you *S*)

Does anyone have any experiences they could share about hiring a
crew-person . . . good or bad? What would be the most effective way of
finding someone? What pitfalls await the unwary?

Take care . . .

John
