Could a couple of people let me know what they see for the normal idle oil
pressure, and pressure at about 2000 RPM, for a Westerbeke 40 engine (fully warmed up)? Thanks |

Do you recall the pressure at idle, say 900 RPM? Glad to see this question. My own W40 oil pres runs 70 psi above about 1800 rpm and falls off very little as rpm comes down. Can't remember what it is at lower speeds. The boat was new to me last year, 27 yrs old (the boat not me...) and the engine has 2440 hrs. I thought this pressure was high and contacted Hansen Marine in Marblehead MA. Their service engr thought it was OK at that pressure but didn't have a lot of specifics as to why that's ok. What was more convincing that I could live with it is that the only way to modify is to disassemble the whole engine to get at the pump. Maybe this high pressure is in some way connected to the main bearing seal oil drip which I experience and is known to be part of this engine's "charm." |
