I posted a query about finding a fabricator to make me a stainless
steel water tank the other day. I posted both here and in rec.boats.building and have learned that the cost of the stainelss steel would run the cost up to several thousand dollars. Can't afford stainless so I am looking for other suggestions. I can not use stock tanks as it is for the port water tank on a Morgan OI 41. This tank holds about 70 gallons and is made to fit upright against the port hull. How about plastic? Can they be made to fit? Does plastic hold up? Can they be made with baffles? The failed tank was made of galvanized steel. Perhaps this is the route I should take? Suggestions gratefully received? George |

Not a problem as long as the tank walls are thick enough to support the weight of the water (8.333 lbs/gal)...there are many boats with plastic water and waste tanks. Can they be made to fit? If Ronco Plastics (see Wayne's reply) doesn't have a rotomolded tank that'll fit, there are two custom plastic tank fabricators who can make you one that does: SeaFab Tanks in RI: http://www.seafabtanks.com/ (formerly C.C. Tech) Triple M Plastics in ME: http://www.triplemplastics.net/ Does plastic hold up? Better than metal...a good quality plastic tank will outlast your boat. Can they be made with baffles? Rotomolded tanks cannot be...custom welded tanks can be. The failed tank was made of galvanized steel. Perhaps this is the route I should take? Nope...I'd go with plastic...it doesn't corrode. -- Peggie ---------- Peggie Hall Specializing in marine sanitation since 1987 Author "Get Rid of Boat Odors - A Guide To Marine Sanitation Systems and Other Sources of Aggravation and Odor" http://shop.sailboatowners.com/books...ku=90&cat=1304 |

![]() My tanks are plastic. Over 100 gallons and have baffles. They are great. They don't sweat. No taste. Easy to clean. Will last longer than me. I don't know who made my tanks (British boat). I've also heard great things about Ronco. you might also look at OceanLink www.oceanlinkinc.com . I don't know about their tanks but I bought a watermaker and was happy with them. Carl |

Contact: Bob Boyer He custom builds tanks, and can also usually beat any price on a Ronco tank since he is a dealer for them, too. I'm always interested in new GOOD QUALITY suppliers...Does he have a website? -- Peggie ---------- Peggie Hall Specializing in marine sanitation since 1987 Author "Get Rid of Boat Odors - A Guide To Marine Sanitation Systems and Other Sources of Aggravation and Odor" http://shop.sailboatowners.com/books...ku=90&cat=1304 |

George The guy told you the price for TWO tanks, one of 264 gallons and the other of 132 gallons. 396 gallons total. You want ONE tank of 70 gallons. Look in your yellow pages for a welder and get a few more opinions from people who actually do it for a living. They don't have to specialize in "marine" fabrication and they don't have to specialize in "tank" fabrication. Tote your old tank with you and tell them you want to replace it in stainless or take pictures and measurements. Sam |
