Urgent ! Should I buy this Beneteau 473 ?
"Danny" wrote: Poopie: Silly boy. Put the combo washer and dryer on the foredeck! That way the noise won't bother you as much at night. And, be sure to balance them athwart-ships so Olive Oil will not find the dryer out of balance while under way! I've thought about putting it in the forward compartment (forepeak ?) like in some Catalina models but don't think I can get it in there. I think you should offer the broker a couple extra thousand to secure the deal. You don't want this baby getting away from you. It will look real nice on that private dock down in the South Pacific. Lanta Island is in the Indian Ocean. And lastly, did you finally decide against the tennis court? Just like with the washer/dryer unit I want to have an option of installing one later. |

Bil wrote: wrote: Lanta Island is in the Indian Ocean. ? I'm not certain my grade school English and geography teachers would agree with you. First, Koh Lanta is made of two islands, Koh Lanta Noi to the north and Koh Lanta Yai to the south, with a ferry joining the two. E of the Koh Lanta are a dozen or so smaller islands (Koh Po, Koh Kam Yai, Koh Talabeng, Koh Klang, etc). Second, the Koh Lanta twins might be better regarded as being in the Andaman Sea. So your sentence might be better formed as: The Lanta islands are in the Andaman Sea. Please tell your grade school geography teacher that Andaman Sea is a part of the Indian Ocean (not Pacific Ocean). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andaman_Sea And tell your grade school English teacher that most people use the term "Lanta Island" possibly because Lanta Yai and Lanta Noi islands are so close to each other that they look just like one island with a river or canal running through. See http://www.koh-lanta-thailand.com/info/maplanta.htm If you do a Google search for "Lanta Island" you'll get about 100,400 results whereas a search for "Lanta Islands" only gives about 656 results. |

It sounds like you actually know what you are talking about and have actualy been there. Did you go in a Big Mac 26, sailing canoe, Benny Toe or a You Know? I was thinking of going in a jet ski or love boat but don't know how many days it would take, whether or not it should have a PVC bimini frame, and was worried about what the neighbors might think. Do you know where I can get free charts? I had several good charts of that area on restaurant placemats but they were lost in a Gail (I think she took them). |

No.. don't buy it. Not if you cant get your washer dryer onboard. And what
about the dishwasher? you forgot that didn't you. This may prove a better alternative. You may have to spend a few pennies more, but it will have a few more creature comforts. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/cv-63-kh-hi.jpg DP wrote in message k.net... I've just put down a refundable deposit on this 2005 Beneteau 473 so please let me know if you think this is a good buy. This boat is quite well-equipped and is almost like new and I can buy her for just under $300,000. The previous owner only took one short trip and decided to trade her in for a larger boat. According to a recent survey this boat is worth $310,000 and has a replacement value of $380,000. I've put the specs and pictures on my new web site at http://beneteau473.tripod.com This boat may not be as good as a Tayana or a Catalina for crossing an ocean but at this point I don't even know if I'll ever have a chance to do this because my cats may get seasick. For sailing around here (California) or even going to the East Coast or the Bahamas I'm sure she will do just fine. One small problem is that there isn't a good place to put a combo washer and dryer. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. |

And think how handy it would be in dealing with those pesky PWCs!

Looked at 473 closely this summer (before deciding to buy a catamaran after all) - liked them, heard good things about them, most common boat on the ARC, world's biggest manufacturer, lots built, good reviews, as easily resold as any boat, discount on new price.... what is there not to like, and the spec looks OK too. The pics show the version without the extra cupboards at the forward port end of the saloon, but hey, more room for guests with bubbly when you aren't sailing. |

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. I've sailed on a friends' Beneteau 50 for the past five years and am quite impressed. We could easily get the combo washer and drier on board by doing away with one of the five heads/shower units! Dennis. |
