I almost stopped in Mattituck, NY today but decided against it without
knowing more about it.
Can anyone tell me if there is good depth from the entrance
on Long Island Sound all the way up to the turning basin? I need
5 feet and would prefer a little more as a cushion from low tides,
waves, etc.
Also, is there some/any room to anchor?
We draw five feet and have been in there several times in an O'Day 37
accompanied by an Endeavour 40. Just stick to the channel and you will
have no trouble. There is plenty of anchorage in the turning basin,
which is much more than a turning basin. We have gone in there with a
fleet and rafted up. The charm of the place is the town landing with
showers and the fact that the town is a short walk from the harbor. The
entrance is quite hard to pick up from the Sound. Look for some old oil
tanks. A shame you passed it up.
