I will be using an Aquadrive cv joint/thrust bearing so there will be no prop thrust on the transmission if that makes a difference. Go with the cone then, a multi-plate clutch is mostly for buffering the thrust loads under partial engagement. The thrust bearing is a great idea, I wish our boat had one.
