Default seafarer 38

any thoughts on the seafarer 38 plus and minus

I would subscribe to the Seafarers mail list on sailnet.net and ask there, it is
a very active email list. Start at
http://www.sailnet.com/listmgr/help/view.html
to view instructions on how to subscribe to their lists.

I have a 1961 Seafarer Polaris. In general the 1960-1965 boats were Dutch built
to a very high standard. In 1966 production was moved to Long Island, NY, and
quality went down some to very good. In the 80's the builder was struggling
(like most in that time) and has been known to cut corners, and quality was
inconsistent (some good, some not so good). The early 70's were generally
better than the late 70's.

That said, for a 20+ year old boat maintenance means a lot, was it taken care
of? An uncaring owner can turn a Hinkley in a landfill candidate in 20 years.

While I am not familiar with the 38 (I have seen pictures of them) it is a
production cruising boat, not an afternoon racer. It would be good for coastal
cruising, depending on condition, equipage etc it might be suitable for offshore
work.

More specific questions would better be addressed to the mail list.
