One of the adjustments for an autopilot is to enter the latitude so that
this error can be corrected. If the mode is turned on, it may be able
to pick up the lat from the gps.

For example, see page 111 of:

Really? This is a new one to me, and at first flush I can't think of a
reason why this should be. Can you explain?
