Actually it is a Bosun's pipe not whistle. Making it work isn't all that
hard, it's learning the various calls that is the kicker. You'd need a
recording of each or someone who knows them to teach you.

Further note. One doesn't whistle on a naval ship. At least not within
hearing distance of any grizzled old bosun's. A bosun "pipes down"
various calls, meals, reveille, now hear this, etc.

West has one for a few bucks and includes instructions on how to use it
and many calls.

The "Boot" bos'n should be assigned to learn and practice in the Bos'n
Locker, farthest from the rest of the crew and especially at some great
distance from the Chiefs Quarters.

Well, the ad called it a Boatsun's Whistle and if you Google on
Bosun's Whistle you get several hundred hits but unfortunately
no instructions. Look's like it should have come with instructions
according to the ad.

I think technically it is called a Boatswain's Pipe.

I'm think that this is what I am asking for. I know what I need. I just need
someone to help me find it.

I know! See previous comment.

Check out this site on tin whistles:

A bosun's pipe seems nothing more than a tin whistle with a resonator,
at least that's what the one's on Brit ships resemble.
