Bosun's Whistle
Anybody have a link to instructions for using a Bosun's Whistle?

West has one for a few bucks and includes instructions on how to use it
and many calls. MikeG wrote: In article , AMcom says... Anybody have a link to instructions for using a Bosun's Whistle? Doug s/v Callista Actually it is a Bosun's pipe not whistle. Making it work isn't all that hard, it's learning the various calls that is the kicker. You'd need a recording of each or someone who knows them to teach you. Further note. One doesn't whistle on a naval ship. At least not within hearing distance of any grizzled old bosun's. A bosun "pipes down" various calls, meals, reveille, now hear this, etc. |
The "Boot" bos'n should be assigned to learn and practice in the Bos'n
Locker, farthest from the rest of the crew and especially at some great distance from the Chiefs Quarters. Steve (CWO, USN Ret.) s/v Good Intentions |
Well, the ad called it a Boatsun's Whistle and if you Google on
Bosun's Whistle you get several hundred hits but unfortunately no instructions. Look's like it should have come with instructions according to the ad. I think technically it is called a Boatswain's Pipe. Doug s/v Callista ps. A couple of comments below. "MikeG" wrote in message ews.com... In article , AMcom says... I'm think that this is what I am asking for. I know what I need. I just need someone to help me find it. Further note. One doesn't whistle on a naval ship. I don't see anything there about Bosun's Whistles.

Check out this site on tin whistles: http://www.rogermillington.com/siamsa/brosteve/ A bosun's pipe seems nothing more than a tin whistle with a resonator, at least that's what the one's on Brit ships resemble. |
Perfect, thanks!

Steve,
Had to buy a can of "Never Dull" today, made me think of quarterdeck watches! MMC "Steve" wrote in message ... Thanks John...I had been looking for instruction also and your 'sound' links
are great. As a matter of fact, the wife just yelled up at me to 'stop blowing that thing" as I was playing each sample on the site. Hee hee.. Now I know another way to irritate her! |
My commodore wants me to pipe "Pipe To Ship" and
"Pipe To Shore". I can't find any references to these calls. Anyone know anything about these calls. DOug s/v Callista "Doug Dotson" wrote in message ... Anybody have a link to instructions for using a Bosun's Whistle? Doug s/v Callista |
