If you are planning or you are aleady underway via the ICW or ocean to
mid east coast of Florida or to FL west coast north of Ft. Meyers and to Panhandle area of NW FL and west, the best advise anyone can give and take is to stay away. The people whose marinas and boats were damaged do not now need your business. They need time and energy to recover from recent storms. For your own safety and for your boat's safety, channel markers are often missing or moved, channels and bottoms have often changed (sometimes dramatically) from severe silting and and so charts are useless, debris litters the ICW and channels off of ICW. Many bascule bridges on ICW are damaged and currently inoperative. Most marinas are badly damaged or destroyed, electric power is still out, fuel supply is at best spotty and uncertain, water supply and sanitary facilities are often unavailable or tenuous, etc. Dredges and barges are working to make repairs and to recover beached and sunken boats (thousands), but they need space for meanueverability. They do not now need any boat traffic to contend with. If you still believe none of this applies to you, please stay in the ocean and Gulf along FL coasts and head S directly to Ft, Lauderdale or to Miami and the FL Keys or N and W in the Gulf of Mexico N of Ft. Meyers to ports west of Mobile AL. Most of FL is not now the place to go. Give us a chance to recover our stressed out lives, properties and businesses. And donate to charities! |
