I sailed this weekend, did any of you pretenders sail?
If you've noticed I didn't post yesterday it's because I went sailing and anchored out in Florida Bay for the night. There's no wi-fi out there, don't you know. I decided to get out of the harbor because they were having a wedding at one of the motels and they play loud obnoxious music all hours of the night. So obnoxious these lubbers. A bunch of out-of-towners come and ruin the ambience of the Keys with their drunken debauchery. Sad. Why can't people be a little more considerate of their fellow man? But, I did think of you all and I caught up on my replies and even took some photos to show those of you who only dream about sailing what the watery world actually looks like from an anchored boat. I took a north, south, east and several west photos (Sunset) using my Ipod Touch. If anybody is interested I can upload them and post a link for your viewing pleasure. I really don't mind some of you living vicariously through me as that's probably as close to sailing as most of you ever get. Wilbur Hubbard |

Here the winds were light and variable in the morning but filled in nicely out of the east at 10-15 knots but steady and not gusty. Good afternoon for a sail. Sunny skies. High temp around 70. Even enjoyed a couple après-sail beers. Put a nice little pork roast on the barbeque and it was delicious. Wilbur Hubbard |

It looked so nice and peaceful in those pictures but the wind was supposed to be out of the east at 10mph that night. So guess what happened. Starting about an hour after sunset, it blew out of the northwest at about fifteen knots so it was rock and roll all night long as the fetch from that direction was about half a mile. Had the forecast been correct, I would have been in the lee of that little island in nice smooth water. It was nice and quiet there. I had to get out of the anchorage as they had a wedding Saturday night in one of the hotels on the beach and a VERY LOUD band with big drums and speakers and all. Too obnoxious! But, you have to watch the depths which are also listed on the electronic chart to make sure you don't run aground trying to follow a straight line to your destination. If the depths are dubious just zig and zag the course line and steer to waypoints to avoid such hazards. If it weren't for modern conveniences such as these then the likes of a Bruce in Bangkok, for example, probably would have never gotten out of the home port harbor. LOL! Hey, you're not so bad... :-) Thanks, I think I put Bruce and Skippy to shame, for sure. LOL! I think it looks really homey inside. If I had to criticize something, I'd say get some different rugs. They look a little darker than the cushions and sort of draw your eye to them vs. the cushions. Speaking of those... do you stick to them when it gets warm? Perhaps they should be in covers. Then you could wash them if needed. The rugs have faded considerably. I've washed them and bleached them so many times that they are about the same color as the cushions. Besides, I only use them in the winter to keep my feet a little warmer. In the summer I roll them up and stow them away. When sailing, I don't use them at all as the footing is better using the non-skid surface that is molded into the GRP sole. As for sticking to the cushions when it's hot I do stick to them but I sit on a towell most of the time to keep from sticking. Actually, it's more like sliding around than sticking. LOL! At any rate, they are much easier to keep clean than cloth cushions. Just a wipe down with a sponge and a little detergent and bleach and water is all it takes. I can sit on them hot and sweaty and with suntan oil and I don't have to worry about them at all. Ok.. and a dumb question (I'm sure). What's the little things in the same picture that shows the two rubs on the left side near the stair step? Is that just a 110v outlet with stuff in it? You guessed it. I wish more people had your healthy attitude. Instead, most people, when they're stressed out, end up eating or drinking. That's the worst thing they can do. I can be stressed out about something and then go for a long, hard, bike ride and it gives me a chance to think things through and, combined with the physical exertion and endorphins in the brain, it puts everything in the proper perspective.
