Christmas is multiple things, Greg.

The Online dictionary definition:

mer·ry
adj. mer·ri·er, mer·ri·est
1. Full of high-spirited gaiety; jolly.
2. Marked by or offering fun and gaiety; festive: a merry evening.
3. Archaic Delightful; entertaining.
4. Brisk: a merry pace.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/christmas

"Today, Christmas is largely secularized and dominated by gifts,
decorated trees, and a jolly Santa Claus."

It seems to me this 'merry' Christmas crap is just another way for
non-believers to take over and marginalize the true meaning of Christmas.

That's because you're stupid.

It seems to me Christ's birth should be celebrated with solemn thanks to our
Lord for giving his only begotten son that those who believe in Him may have
everlasting life.

Why? You're not anything near to a Christian in deed or action. It
should hardly matter to you.

Getting drunk on spirits and getting bloated on too much food is debauchery.

How's your grow room coming along?

Is it proper to gives thanks to the Lord's ultimate sacrifice by engaging in
sinful behavior? Making Christmas all about human vices seems to me to be
very antithetical, blasphemous and sinful and no way to get to Heaven.

In which case you should be worried. Hint: reread the part about
bearing false witness against thy neighbor.

I hate the secular version of Christmas because it disrespects my religion.
Santa Claus is held in higher esteem than my Lord and that sticks in my
craw.

Does calling women "kunts" venerate your religion, Greg?

As evidenced by all the churchs to Santa. Right.

Where Santa's image is left up all year and venerated; where people sing
his praises all year long; where they get into bloody, pulpit-pounding
doctrinal fights about what his writings mean for eternal salvation/

Right.

Heh. I'm actually enjoying being alone today as I just spent the entire
weekend with 20 of my family. We ate, opened gifts, talked, drank a lot
of wine and enjoyed one another's company. It was a special weekend as
our son and his wife and daughters drove all the way from Reno, Nevada to
spend the weekend with us. We had a wonderful time. Sorry you didn't.

hard to be lonely in a small crowd of 20. i'm glad you had a good time.
my sister and her husband and youngest came up from the ozarks to spend
the week, and we had 24 at christmas dinner, only 17 at christmas eve
dinner.

Drat! And here I thought I'd had a lot of people for dinner. We seem to
have the same ideas though. :-)
