Default Long Term anchoring

In several places along the ICW, I have seen sailboats that looked as
if they are anchored long term. Some boats are old and look to be
rarely visited by the owners while others are obviously used more.
There were some very nice boats that looked to be long term anchored.
Although my boat is very old and long ago paid for and her loss would
not be a hardship, I still hesitate to anchor my boat and leave her
for more than a day or so. What do others think of this?

I think you are exactly right. We never leave our boat anchored and
unattended for more than a few hours at a time. Anything more than
that we get a dock at a marina with good security. I keep offering
you a free dock in the Ft Myers area but have not seen any interest on
your part for some reason. Why is that ?

Wayne:

I truly intend to contact you when I get down your way. However, I
did not intend to push myself onto your good nature. After all, you
might take one look at my bizarro bright dinghy and think "What did I
get myself into". So, if you truly mean it, I will accept your
offer. However, if you think it will not work, I will understand you
rescinding it. I think, I may be leaving GulfPort Marina probably
Sunday and get to the Fort Myers area around Tuesday but plans are not
absolutely certain. This trip is going a lot slower than I expected.
Finding that my mast was about to fall down did require drastic action
taking 3 days and the weater was sorta nasty too.

David,

Send me a valid EMAIL address at:

(yes, just like that)

I'll send you directions on how to find our place and the name of our
neighbor across the street who keeps an eye on things. Time is of
the essence here since we are probably leaving Turks and Caicos today
to take another leg south to the Caribbean.
