After going through Hurricane Isabel I had a lot of people asked me
about the old Dietz Monarch lanterns that we used for 7 days after the
storm. I found out that you could not find a Dietz lantern anywhere
around here. So I'm going to try and remedy that situation here in
the Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake Virginia area.

Stop by and have a look.

world and don't know what a Dietz lantern is, and can't find out the day after
a hurricane hit.

So does mine, but neither of us is in the Norfolk area.

Lehman's http://www.lehmans.com/ has these, as well as lots of other
alternative lighting equipment. There is usually a lot of good stuff for
boaters at these "off grid" and solar equipment sites. I didn't even know
that Dietz made so many types! Table lamps, pole lamps, railroad style, etc.

Relying on Jaxian physics principles and transporter technology (not
unlike a TARDIS) Don White has, now, been displaced in time and space
such that his Canadian home and property are located in Tidewater
Virginia! Amazing!

The Jaxian innovations in physics have truly made ALL things possible!

Read here how hurricane Juan affected Tidewater Virginia after
striking Nova Scotia:
http://www.atl.ec.gc.ca/weather/hurricane/juan/

Read here how residents can (using Jaxian technology) shop stores in
Halifax, Nova Scotia by merely driving a few blocks:
http://www.leevalley.com/home/stores...ID=&ccurrency=

"Why is it the you.."??? Goa'uld syntax, perhaps?

Jax, when you post on a subject about which you are knowledgeable, you can
make interesting and informative contributions. Unfortunately, you seem to
have a tendency to post on subjects about which you have no experience.
Have you ever seen a Dietz 'Hurricane' or 'Blizzard' lantern lit? You
couldn't have or you wouldn't make comments like "It is like trying to read
by the light of four birthday candles." You must be thinking about a
smaller Dietz lantern or have only seen examples with badly trimmed wicks.
Certainly it isn't as bright as a Coleman camp lantern, but it less bother
to light and silent while lit so I tend to use it as often as a Coleman and
I have no trouble reading by it if necessary.

In our part of the world, when we don't have power, we don't have
water either because the pump in the well is electric. So no flush
toilets, no water, and no heat (if it is in the cold months), no TV to
see the Weather Channel, and no computer.

Plus of course no refrigeration.

It's something when you go out to the boat to use the bathroom.

Do what we here in Florida. Fill the bath tub with water before the
power goes out. Put a bucket in the bath room, then use a bucket of
water to flush the toilet.
