Default Cockpit Grating - non-Teak Favorite?

Subject says it all. Cost and rot-resistance are the key
characteristics for a DIY grating, I suppose. What are yr favorite
east coast woods here?

Default Cockpit Grating - non-Teak Favorite?

Atlantic white cedar is first choice. Northern white cedar second. Cypress
is OK, but gets heavy. White pine might last a while.

If teak strips are thin (no more than 1/4"), the cost of all materials is
under $10/ft^2, half the materials cost of a teak grating.

My love of cockpit gratings ended when I dumped the bowl of dip. They're
very hard to clean.
