There was a pic in last saturdays los angeles times that stated the
developer was a gent named Ugo Conti, the boat is named "proteus"- 100' hulls, 50' beam, powered by 2-350 hp cummins marine diesels. Can carry 2 tons cargo and 12 tons fully loaded. Pat |

--That's a mighty odd way to carry cargo! Any indication of what
kind of cargo would require a vessel like that to get it from point A to point B? -- "Steamboat Ed" Haas : Any Scrabble players Hacking the Trailing Edge! : around? I cracked 500! www.nmpproducts.com ---Decks a-wash in a sea of words--- |

Looking at that vessel makes me wonder if those might be options for freight
delivery to small outports. Just strap a container between the hulls. According to what I've been reading in the news the Government ferries in Newfoundland are aging and not being replaced. An entrepreneur (not me) could start delivering containers from port to port. APB "Jester" wrote in message oups.com... http://www.wam-v.com/ |

--Kewl; thanks for the link. A close look at one of the photos and
then a read of the materials the thing's made from clinches it: the pontoons are inflated, hence the low weight and its ability to beach without damage. -- "Steamboat Ed" Haas : Any Scrabble players Hacking the Trailing Edge! : around? In article , says...

A WAM-V does not push, slap or pierce the waves. She utilizes flexibility to adapt her structure and shape to the water surface. Instead of forcing the water to conform to the hull, she gives and adjusts; she ?dances? with the waves. A superstructure is flexibly connected to specially designed pontoons by several components that actually move in relation to one another. A WAM- V? has springs, shock absorbers and ball joint to articulate the vessel and mitigate stresses to structure, payload and crew. Two engine pods, containing the propulsion and ancillary systems, are fastened to the hulls with special hinges that keep the propellers in the water at all times. JS |
