Hi All,
I've been here before, an am still workining on my trimaran after a computer crash. Yes, I'm the neolithic person that most of you laughed at.... Sorry for the typos, but does anyone know how to *remove* fiberlass? I wound up with a thick glob of it over the first third of the central hull, and need to take it off before progressing. Interesting Note: My Mother came back from a trip to Hawaii, and I discovered that boat there were make from hollowed out tree trucks, rather that plank-construction as was used in the other Polynesian Islands. ....Interesting little book she brought back for me, though I'd rather know the plank construction style as well... Steve, I'm sorry I never replied. Computer crash. I'd love to see these little trimarans sailed around Tampa Bay, and am willing to be an apprentice.... Thanks! Sandra |

Dynamite, Cheisels, rasps, sandpaper, and lot's of elbow grease... How you get it off revolves around two words, elbow grease. Think of how bad it would be to have to chip, scrape, sand, etc that stuff away as the hotter it gets the harder it is to work and the faster it fills the chosen tool, that's about half as bad as it will be. In all seriousness, you just got to grind or chop it off with whatever you have, it sucks... remove GRP
A 6" disk sander w/36 grit works real well. A disk sander is NOT a random orbital thingy - all it does is spin a 6" disk in one direction. Makita has a nice el-cheapo (less than $100) that should take years of abuse (or at least about 5 times as much as any Ryobi tool - and I like some of Ryobis tools...). Disk sanders are significantly lighter than grinders and don't spin quite as fast. It's easier (and cheaper) to put on new grinding/sanding media, and they can be used for pretty delicate work if you practice the knack. Rufus |
