My apologies if this was asked already so feel free to reply with a link to
a previous post.

I'm investigating the build of a hydroplane for recreational purposes only
(no racing ...yet, who knows). I've built hovercrafts
(http://home.comcast.net/~marklessard/hovercrafts.htm) so fiberglassing wood
working etc are not totally new to me but there are obvious differences. I'm
currently thinking about clarkcraft's 11 foot inboard.

I'm assuming the 48ci could just be a 750cc cycle engine. I'd also like to
keep the first one small to test the waters (no pun intended, ...ok a
little). So without babbling on further is there any suggestions or
resources etc I should consult before investing money ($45 for the plans is
no big deal but I thought I'd stat here first) Thanks in advance for you
time reading this and even more so for any responses.

Thank You,
Mark

Thanks for the heads up, I was kinda wondering about that. Looks like you
hang out at more groups than alt.rec.hovercraft. Any ideas on the engine
thing? Will any 48ci(750cc) engine work you think? From the pieces I've seen
it looks fairly simple when compared to a hovercraft but I haven't made the
hydroplane though!

I have no clue about the engine thing, like with the hovers I am sure there
is a rpm power prop pitch thing going on. I very briefly did some searching
on the net a few months ago for the engine to shaft couplers and the through
hull bearings and shaft, (there is a name for that but it escapes me right
now) but figured I had better finish the projects I have going before diving
into a hydro project. I have yet two more hovers coming soon. Let me know if
you find anything out or if the info is in the plans.
It would be nice to talk with someone who has had one of these, I would be
most interested in which model a guy could actually sit in, my kneeling and
crouching days are gone!
There used to be a custom homebuilt job running around lake Washington with
a small block V8 and a side by side bench seat, and I have heard a rumor
about a unlimited hydro that was set up for four adults. I don't think it
had the original engine though.

Maybe there is a yahoo group for hydro's?

I started reading here sometime last year, lot's of good info amongst the
weeds to be had and some good links to look at other folks projects. Hey and
from time to time I can point and show my wife there are people out there
crazier the me myself or I.
