Got a stitch and glue Sweet Caroline, no floatation other than the wood
right now. Trying to make her a better bet for farther offshore . It has
two partial bulkheads with thwarts above them. My calculations show that if
I place blocks of foam under the two larger thwarts I will still need more
to try to float her high enough. Forward compartment is sealed air for
now. May put a hatch in and foam that too.

Since the inner topsides are basically flat for long stretches can those
panels just be covered with 3/4" thick sheets of foam glued in place? Plan
on holding the foam about three or so inches from the deck/sole. Any
drawbacks other than the ease with which those panels will be dinged?

Fast, light , cheap way to protect them ??

Anything I'm overlooking?

lack of ventilation could be a problem. spray getting between the foam and
planking and not drying out. solid gunwales or side decks to keep spray
off top edge of foam?

ah, don't forget rain water. fresh water promotes rot faster than salt.

Perhaps sandwich the foam between two pieces of very thin Luan?? and glass
the sandwich panels before applying them. Can the "sandwiched panels" be
screwed onto the boat's sides with spacers between to allow for air ( and
water ) to move freely???
