You are correct. Epoxy should also be painted with an U V. inhibited
paint as it tends to chalk after an few years.

Aluminum dust is added to aircraft dope to make what we call "silver"
coats. The aluminum dust provides UV protection for the fabric underneath..

I've done some fiberglass parts that way too.
It works fine.
