Avonite or Corian ......
There was just a thread on one of the Sailnet lists WRT Diamonite.
Here's the post (below) - the website looks very interesting. Well, Dang. Thought I had it, and don't. I'll try to summarize. This stuff works like wood, and is available in a variety of thicknesses. They've got a huge variety of colors available, presized for home, or 24 and 30" widths in a variety of lengths. Here's a link: http://www.worldpanel.com/diamonitefab.htm - other links there will take you to other interesting stuff, including teak and other materials. In one of my current projects, I was planning to use Corian or the like, but
after i found out the weight of the stuff, I switched to laminate on plyewood. Adam wrote: Has anyone use those materials for galley countertop or other useage on a Sailboat.Could you give me your opinion. Thanx,Ytter |

I, also, looked at the weight and cost of Corian and decided to go with
formica. Hard to beat Formica. I am not familiar with Avonite. Avonite or Corian ......
try the formica brand of solid surfacing. Its much easier to work than
corian/and more cost effective. only downside is that it isnt as tempture resistant as corian. |
