Default 5 gal epoxy prices < $60/gal ?

That is about right for Proset 125/229. FGCI laminating resin is about
half that price but about twice the CPS (they don't state any number but
that would be my estimate.) Raka is even thicker.

I need 5 to 10 gal of a light low viscosity epoxy [approx 600 cps @ 70

$60/gal.

Is that about as good as I'm going to do ?

Thank you,

I'm sure Paul Oman will chime in here, and though I find his web-site
(www.epoxyproducts.com) difficult to navigate, the prices for their
'Basic No-Blush 2 Epoxy' and 'Premium No-Blush Epoxy' - both with a
mixed viscosity of 600 cps, neither of which I have used are
considerably cheaper than $60/gal in the 15+ gallon quantities.

There are now '.pdf' data sheets on the site, which include a good
ammount of technical data.

Possibly worth a look.

Anybody know the mixed viscosity of the System Three resins? The general
purpose resin is 550cps at 77 F and is combined with hardeners at 2:1 ratio
(1100cps for #1 Fast, 900cps for #2 Medium, and 350cps for #3 Slow). For
Clear Coat, the ratio is about the same and the resin is 580-600cps,
hardener 190-210cps.

At our store, the 7.5 gallons of general purpose epoxy (5 gal resin + 2.5
gal hardener) comes to $38.37 per gallon. Clear Coat comes out at $54.80
per gallon in a 7.5 gallon kit.

Really? I haven't used it yet, but everything I've heard about Raka is
that it's one of the lower viscocity epoxies on the market. It's
supposed to provide very rapid wet-out.

That has definitely NOT been my experience. I use Proset and West most
but have used Maas, S3 FGCI and Raka. Raka was the thickest. The Maas
low viscosity resin was probably the thinest.

Hi

CHEM-SURF'S claims to have surplus resin at $1.80 pound or about $14.40 gallon
http://www.chem-surf.com/recycling/plastics.html

Has anyone had any luck with them?

Thanks

Our System Three resin sells for a lot less: $ 39.00 a gallon per 5 gallons.
http://www.boatbuildercentral.com/products.php?id=3

I am not certain of the exact viscosity because it depends on the hardener.
The resin is around or below 600 centipoise. In all cases, I would test a
sample: viscosity is only one factor and viscosity is really difficult to
measure anyway. The standard is Haake but who knows what is used?
I would test.

Once you go above 15 gallons, we can supply Phase 2 which has a lower
viscosity.

Boy, if you can figure out what all the different resins are, it might be a
good deal.
I'm not familiar enough with the different types they list.
Would be a shot in the dark, and it's enough work building once, I don't
want to do it twice because of cheap resin.
