If there are some straight sections then save those and cut them extra
long- paint the ends , store in the shade off the ground. Advertise on the primitivearcher.com message board , 2" x 2" x 70" prime bowstaves sell for about $50.00 or more depending on how much someone is willing to pay. Russ B wrote: A recent storm downed a VERY large bois d'arc tree at our family farm. This tree is also commonly called bodock, horse apple, and osage orange. Indians used to make bows from these trees...hence the name bois d'arc. Once dried, the stuff is as hard as a rock; when freshly cut, you can barely cut it. There are fenceposts on the place that were cut in the 30's and 40's that are still solid, though I have no idea how it would hold up in a marine environment. Anyone have a use for this kind of wood? It will cost me a fortune in chainsaw blades to cut it up! RB |
